Pastor’s Corner
Dear Sacred Heart family,
This Sunday we hear Our Lord ask “œWho do people say that I am?” This is a question which presents new and interesting opportunities for us today as believers. Many people have been prepared by Catholic institutions in recent decades with CCD classes, Parochial Schools, Youth Groups, and parish activities to be active Catholics serving in our busy world. Not as many individuals have been formed in the context of being a disciple of Jesus.
The Gospels reveal the Lord as inviting people to follow Him. He ask questions, He invites, He welcomes people into a path of discovering the truth about God and ourselves. Many people we know and love, who take a place in our pews, have not necessarily been presented with this question of “œWho do we say that He is?” Do I know that the heart of Catholicism is an encounter with the Person of Christ? Jesus comes into each of our lives to invite us to know Him as He reveals His plan of life, love, and truth.
There are many ways Jesus calls us to be stretched, to leave our comfort zone, to carry our cross. However, all of this proceeds based on an initial encounter with the living God. For a person today, none of the Faith will make sense if we don’t start with this basic question of knowing Him personally. This week I invite you to come visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, and to speak with Him in your heart in daily life. Ask Him to help you get to know Him, and His life-changing personal love for you.
Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard what God has prepared for those who love Him. We cannot love who we do not know. We have heard much about Jesus, this week let us take another few steps closer to getting to know Him, not just about Him.
In Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart,
Fr. Bjorn Lundberg
