Classes begin Tuesday, September 15!
The wildly popular and successful “Denver Catholic Biblical School” program is now coming to Virginia! The Biblical School was founded almost 40 years ago in Denver in response to the Second Vatican Council’s call for a renewal of Scripture study among the people of God. It has made the inspired Word of God come alive for thousands of adult students across the Archdiocese of Denver and the country. For the first time, classes will be launched in Virginia, here at Sacred Heart of Jesus parish! Classes will be held on Tuesdays at 9:15am AND 7:00pm. Students can attend whichever time is best for their schedule. Whether you have been a long-time student of the Scriptures or are a beginner, these classes will help you discover the timelessness of God’s Word and transform your life!
Meet the instructor
Dr. Nicholas Lebish joins the Sacred Heart of Jesus community as our new Executive Director of Formation and Administration. He comes to us from Denver, where he served as the Director of the St. John Vianney Theological Seminary Lay Division, which brought their hugely successful Biblical and Catechetical Schools to 2,500 students in 70 parishes throughout Colorado. With well more than a decade of leadership and experience teaching the Bible and the Catholic faith in various contexts, he will launch the Biblical School at Sacred Heart of Jesus this Fall as the first step to bring exciting, substantive formation to adults in the parish. Come to any information session to meet Nicholas and find out more about this momentous opportunity!
The school year consists of 30 weeks of classes, spanning September to May with breaks included. Tuition for the year is $600 plus a $20 non-refundable registration fee. This includes your workbook—the cost of textbooks is additional. Visit our website for a list of all available scholarships and discounts. Call 540-662-5858 for details.
Can I take the Class Online?
Yes, with a couple considerations. Normally, the Catholic Biblical School is offered strictly as a live, in-person course because that’s what works best for students’ learning and community building. However, because of COVID-19 concerns and policies issued by the Arlington diocese and state governments, we will offer the course ½ online and ½ in person, we will live-stream the lecture via Zoom. That means folks who are taking extra special social precautions and thereby feel uncomfortable participating in person can still participate by registering for the online option. Those students participating in person will still be asked to social distance at six feet, and if that’s impossible, to wear a mask. Once the COVID crisis passes, classes will return exclusively to a live, in-person format. Finally, only individuals local to Sacred Heart area (folks over the border in West Virginia are invited) and the Arlington Diocese are permitted to join the online section.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays at 9:15am AND 7:00pm. Students can attend whichever time is best for their schedule. Before registering, however, everyone is invited to a free and fun, no-obligation Information Session to meet Dr. Lebish, hear a sample lecture on Luke 24, “The Road To Emmaus”, and find out more details about the program such as the curriculum, format, calendar, books, tuition, scholarships, etc. All of our information sessions are completed, but if you missed it, you can watch by clicking this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmquhU3Vy2M
