A Call to Faithful Citizenship

This fall, Virginia voters will consider two proposed constitutional amendments concerning reproductive freedom (Ballot Question 1) and same-sex marriage (Ballot Question 2). Both raise serious concerns regarding the protection of human life, marriage, equal protection under the law, and religious liberty.

As Catholics, we are called to consider these questions not through the lens of party politics, but according to the principles of our faith and the demands of justice. We therefore urge a “No” vote on both amendments.

While many political issues involve prudential judgments about which Catholics may legitimately disagree, the protection of innocent human life and the nature of marriage concern fundamental moral goods.

Now is the time to act. Form your conscience, understand what these amendments would do, speak with your family and neighbors, and make your voice heard at the ballot box.

Vote NO on Ballot Questions 1 and 2, and stand for human life, marriage, religious liberty, and the common good.
