Dear families,

Greetings from our volunteer teachers, aides, and helpers along with the Religious Education staff at Sacred Heart.   As we continue navigating through these times our hope is that you are taking care of yourselves, physically, mentally and spiritually.

We are excited to announce that we have kicked off the 2020-2021 RE instruction year!  We have updated our programing to a choice of in person or virtual learning for our sacramental year students and just a virtual option for our other grades.   We are excited for instruction restarting the first week-end of October and helping you continue building the foundation of faith as home has always been where faith formation begins.

In early August, registration information was sent via email and home mailings to all our families we had contact information.  If you did not receive this information and still interested in providing instuction for you child(ren) please contact us so we can discuss options for classes.

Below is a summary of how we are conducting our 2020-2021 school year:

  • In-person classes will be offered on Sunday 3:45-5:15pm and Mondays 5:30-7:00pm only for those students who are preparing to receive a sacrament: 2nd year Holy Communion, RCIC, 1st Year Confirmation (6th and 7th grades), and 2nd year Confirmation.  Our 6th grade students will begin this year as 1st Year Confirmation students, a change from last year based on guidance from Father Lundberg.  Only sacrament year students will have an option for in-person due to Covid-19 and State/Diocesan restrictions along with limited seating in the academy building.  For those preferring virtual instruction, an on-line option with a couple in-person experiences will be available.
  • On-line instruction classes will be offered for those students in Kindergarten, 1st grade (also known as 1st Year Holy Communion), and 3rd through 5th grades.  Instruction will be self paced with the “My Catholic Faith Delivered” platform and student progress overseen by volunteer teachers who will periodically reach out to students and families.
  • All students, whether on-line or in person must register to participate.
  • Our first day of in person classes begins Sunday, 4th October and Monday, 5th October while on line instruction begins the first week of October.

My staff and I are excited to see many students and families again this year.  Please contact me at 540-662-2651 or jcarty@sacredheartwinchester.org for any questions you may have or to ensure your child is registered for the upcoming class year.  And rest assured, in person classes will be conducting with social distancing protocols, temperature readings prior to children entering the building, cleaning desks/tables both before and after classes, required mask usage in the building except when children are all safely sitting in their assigned space with participants 6 or more feet apart.

God Bless you and your families,

Julia Carty
