Solemnity of St. Joseph Celebration

All families in the parish are invited to celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph on March 19th. There will be a procession, a special 5:30 pm Mass, and a celebration in Muldowney Hall afterwards. Consider donating items for our St. Joseph’s Table to be filled with cookies, breads, pastries, fruit and other treats to enjoy.

According to legend, a drout throughout the land led to a great famine in Sicily centuries ago. St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is the patron of the Universal Church, so villagers pleaded for his intercession. When their prayers were answered, a great feast was prepared with the crops grown when the rains finally came.

To remember St. Joseph’s patronage and God’s goodness, the celebration has become a tradition. During the initial celebrations, families prepared buffets and invited people of the village to partake. Guests, especially the needy, were invited to eat what and as much they chose. This St. Joseph’s Table is recreated in homes and parishes today.
